Los Angeles County’s Seven Targeted Industries

Economic development priorities are organized around several workforce development objectives. Among these are encouraging job training for industries that are the most competitive and will generate well-paying jobs to propel economic growth and wealth creation for all residents. The Los Angeles County Economic Development Committee is designed to highlight the targeted high-growth industry clusters across the County and develop workforce programs that align skilled and unskilled workers with these targeted sectors.

In 2015-16, Health Care Services accounted for 12.40% of all employments throughout Los Angeles County. Health Care Services Los Angeles County is the largest manufacturing center in the U.S., with more manufacturing jobs than the state of Michigan. Manufacturing The Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach combine to make our sea ports complex the largest in the Western Hemisphere, handling over 40% of all inbound containers for the entire United States. Trade & Logistics The Leisure & Hospitality sector is a vibrant and growing part of the Los Angeles County economy, offering quality employment opportunities to hundreds of thousands of local residents each year. Leisure & Hospitality With many major studios like Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox, and Paramount Pictures, Los Angeles County is the undisputed, “Entertainment Capital of the World.” Film & Digital Media In 2015-16, there were 51 job placements in the Bioscience industry through WDACS workforce development programs. Bioscience The Construction industry, which currently employs more than 313,000 workers across Southern California, is expected to generate 95,000 job openings during the next five years.
